The Langhe.
Of the seven thousand cultivated hectares of hazelnuts in the province of Cuneo, more than one third is located in the Langhe, an extraordinary  territory for the excellent foods that it produces: it’s not by chance that it was proposed to be included in the list of world Heritage sites UNESCO.A  tourist destination for food and wine, the Langhe are well- known  for their excellent wine production (Barolo, Nebbiolo e Dolcetto d’Alba), and  DOC cheeses, such as “Robiola di Roccaverano”, and for the famous white truffles of Alba. However the highest note hit in this gastronomic paradise is certainly the hazelnut “Tonda Gentile Trilobata”: an amazing product for its fine taste and its persistent aroma.

The creator of this work of art is the hazelnut tree, a plant that belongs to the Betulaceae family, a bush or tree 5 to 7 meters high. The inflorescences are unisexual: the male pendulous catkins are formed in autumn, whilst the female resembles a small bud. Each cultivar of hazelnut is unproductive and needs to be pollinated by another cultivar. In the middle Ages it was believed that the hazelnut tree was the tree belonging to witches, certainly in its fruit there is a touch of magic.

The variety of hazelnut used for the Nocciola-la-là is the “Tonda Gentile Trilobata”an authentic hymn of joy for the palate. Its production is concentrated in the province of Cuneo, amongst the hills of Langhe of Roero and Monferrato. We went as far as the fields of Cherasco Albaretto Torre and La Morra, in the heart of the Langhe, land of generous flavours and aromas to gather these hazelnuts. The PGI denomination guarantees the authentic quality of the product, most appreciated by the confectionary industry. Seed shape, taste and aroma, excellent peel, long shelf- life: the P.G.I Piedmont hazelnut is known as the best in the world. For this reason it’s the unique protagonist of the new MEC3product.

The production of the best hazelnut paste is rigorously artisan made.
The P.G.I “Tonda Gentile Tribolata” Hazelnut is an excellent starting point that deserves to be handcrafted. This precious fruit necessitates 4 phases that require time, dedication and experience. It begins with the collection and the manual selection of only the caliber 15 hazelnuts, the richest in flavour and perfume. The hazelnuts are then slowly toasted to the heart in very old traditional ovens and whilst still hot they are refined in order to preserve their entire aroma. The double and accurate sifting results in a hazelnut paste with a delicious perfume keeping the organoleptic qualities intact. When the favourite fruit of the “Langhe” duets with the skilled workforce the results are triumphal.

Nutritional Information.
Enjoying a healthy handcrafted hazelnut gelato is not just good, but it’s also good for your health. It contains vitamin E that is good for your complexion and hair. Plus hazelnut is also an ideal addition to the Mediterranean diet. It doesn’t contribute to a genuine weight loss however it helps decrease the waistline. Yes it’s good, and it also helps to lower triglycerides and reduce high blood pressure. Note: not what always delights the palate is bad for your health.

The quality of Mec3’s products  has always been beyond dispute.  Its quality system  follows the same register. A tangible sign of this is the certificate UNI EN ISO 9001, released by a body particularly selective and rigorous, the TüV CERT Süddeutschland. The German examiners evaluated different parameters- assistance ,internal organization, trade relations procedures , supplies system, the method  of preservation  and storage – and have established that these are the maximum a company can provide its customers.
